Instagram, algorithm, engagement & more!

This post is going to be a little different, I'll be chatting about some things that have been kind of disturbing "the beauty atmosphere" lately and put so many gorgeous bloggers in doubt that their content is not good enough and some of them are even thinking about quitting blogging because of that, which is crazy and very sad :((

For some of you that don't know instagram is a really lovely platform for people who love beauty/skincare, and there are so many bloggers out there who like to bright up my days (and for sure not only mine) with their wonderful pictures and lovely thoughts. There are so many people who I can proudly call my friends and that's the best part of it. These people genuenly enjoy everything beauty related, talking about it, and share positivity all the time. These people are gorgeous and have the most beautiful souls, and seeing them getting upset about the number of likes/comments aka engagement makes me really sad. I know we like getting traffic, and no matter how much we would have said that numbers don't matter, they actually do. When we reach a milestone it makes us happy, when we reach 1000 followers it makes us happy, when we get 300 likes instead of 200 which is what we normally get, it makes us happy. But there is always the other side of the story.  Instagram has changed the rules, and it's been a while and it seems like every bloggers engagement has dropped. The beauty community is full of people with small (but very lovely) audience, and none of us is Kylie Jenner and this algorithm change has affected so many of us. It affects us because you get used to getting certain amount of likes/follows for a while and then all of a sudden the engagement drops and BOOM there comes self doubt, self criticizing, comparing and constantly telling ourselves that we are not enough, that this blogger takes better pictures, this one's engagement is good and probably this place doesn't need me anymore. I kind of understand all the bloggers who get sad because of the numbers, because there is a reason why they are feeling that way, but instagram is much more than numbers. Once you'll find beautiful friends, who will simply wish you a happy saturday, or weekend on your posts you will realize that you're part of this community and surprisingly there are some people who actually may not know you, but they will wish you a great day from their heart. That's what's important for me. Now about the engagement "struggles"

The way I've overcome getting sad about engagement, and yes there was a time when not getting the amount of likes that I usually get used to make me sad, but not anymore. OK what I was saying is the way that I've overcome this situation was simple. I've changed some things in my mindset. First of all not all my pictures are the same, and it's ok to get 50 likes on one and 300 on the other. Second of all people might be busy. On weekends I don't expect everyone to look at their Instagram 24/7, let alone at my pictures, because it's their free days and they can spend the way that they want it. I personally love to spend time with my family and not to bother about my phone for a couple of hours, and that's totally fine. The real people who have followed me because of my "photography" will always come back and check my post, whether it will be two days later, or two months. And lastly as I've just said try to understand that instagram is not a running marathon and it's not about the numbers, instead the amount of beautiful things about this platform are huge and take your time to discover them.

I hope this post will help you if you're "affected" by instagrams rules lately. I hope that you'll start to take a different look, and I hope you will start to discover some new friends and will understand that THE AMOUNT OF LIKES/COMMENTS DOESN'T DEFINE HOW PRETTY YOUR PICTURES ARE!

  1. Such an amazing post, and one I think a lot of bloggers need to read! There is a great community out there, and it's a shame that Instagram seem to want you to pay for your followers to see your posts. Your content is always so beautiful, I love your account xx

  2. I've definitely noticed a huge dip in engagement - it's hard not to get down because of it given the hours of work that go into the photos. I am still using Instagram but post less as it just doesn't seem to pay off for me!

  4. I know what you mean about engagement, but mine has never been great to begin with. I have thought about stopping because of numbers quite a bit, but ultimately I do it because I enjoy it - so I shouldn't let bad figures stop me from doing something that I like. I had just hoped I would be more successful at it by now, but I guess it's just not my time yet and/or my content doesn't quite compete with other peoples yet.

    1. Honey please don't say something like that. We all have started from somewhere and at first I'm pretty sure everyone's pictures looked like crap. It takes time for you to develop your photography skills, also for people to find your account. Everything is timed perfectly and soon you'll get there if you worked on bettering your content. And please, please, please don't ever think about competing your content with others. Everyone is so unique and the number one thing for enjoying blogging world is understanding that this is a beautiful, unique world and everyone's content is beautiful and competing is the worst thing you can do to yourself. So please stop doing it and start enjoying blogging! <333
